Happy 15th Anniversary to Nomadic Decorator! Formerly “India pied-a-terre”!
On October 25, 2010, I wrote the first few sentence post that launched years of creativity and fun. First, it was about the apartment we built and designed in Chennai, India remotely from the U.S. Then about decor and DIYs inspired by design from around the world.
I haven’t written here in years. Our lives moved on to other things we must do. I have very little — well no time, really — for painting and decorating. I closed the door to my studio and rarely open it. I fear all the paints have dried in the cans and bottles.
Plus, I’ve learned I’m not much of a “changer.” I put things where they are, then leave them. For years. Many years. Our living room of our home by Chicago hasn’t changed much in 25 years. Whenever we move furniture to vacuum cat hair under it, the legs go back in the dents they put in the carpet! So without change, what is there to say here?
So that’s why I disappeared. The India pied-a-terre is still around. My husband visits our office in Chennai several times a year and the apartment is a great space to stay. Sometimes we add old wood things to it, and people don’t understand why we like old things, when we could have new things.
For awhile years ago, there was a nice community here, and I miss it! I miss you all!
Not sure when I’ll be back. I do have practical painting plans. I need to replace the “paprika” orange color dining room walls that I wanted so badly, and painted many years ago. The dining room seemed good in my imagination, but it makes me feel angry when I’m in it! Maybe some people can live in orange. I cannot. The walls look good in the spring and summer. They’re the deep smoked paprika I wanted. In winter, the color turns into cartoony pumpkin. Painful. I’ll paint the walls deep navy. Whenever I get around to it. I’ve had the paint for 2 years now! Anyway. That’s how things are going here.
